A middle aged woman identified as Fatimo
Osunjinrin yesterday lost her life after she was allegedly burnt by her
husband identified as Keji Osunjinrin on Sunday.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the incident happened at Olomoore in Abeokuta North area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
It
was also gathered that the husband came home late that night with a
Jerry can of petroleum after he had had quarrel with the wife earlier in
the day and sprayed her wife while she was cooking in the kitchen.
The
woman, it was reported had earlier attended a naming ceremony of her
niece and told the man on phone that she was going for another family
party before coming home that night.
The husband reportedly
turned down the request and insisted to deal with the woman if she fails
to come home earlier of she is spotted at the family party.
It
was further gathered that the wife suffered severe burnt on all part of
her body while part of the kitchen also got burnt in the process.
Keji
who was said to be a popular politician and land speculator in Ita Oshi
area of the state capital immediately rushed the wife to Akin Olugbade
hospital where the woman gave up the ghost yesterday morning.
When
our correspondent visited the hospital yesterday, the husband, family
members and other sympathisers thronged the hospital to sympathise with
the family.
The husband who was seen with her young daughter told some of the family members that the incident was not intentional.
He
explained that he came home with the petrol to power his generator but
the Jerry can caught fire through the kitchen before he flung it and
eventually landed on his wife.
But many family members of the
deceased woman queried the authenticity of his story and inquired why
the fire didn’t burn any part of his own body since it was ignited in
his hand.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer,
Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident told our correspondent that
the suspect has been arrested and undergoing interrogation.
Oyeyemi
who further revealed that the remains of the woman have been deposited
at an undisclosed morgue said the state Commissioner of Police,
Abdulmajid Ali has directed the matter be transferred to police
headquarters in Eleweran.
He further explained that the suspect
would go through discreet investigation by the Criminal Intelligence and
Investigation Department after which he would be charged to court.
